I had no idea that Mike and I were moving from Tennessee to Arizona right at the start of Monsoon season. I was so stoked for Diana and Dalyn’s desert engagement session in Tucson, but Mother Nature wasn’t being very cooperative for us. Well, the third time was the charm! The forecast finally showed a zero percent chance of rain and mostly sunny skies!
I had met these two briefly on our very first scheduled date. I was driving to Tucson for their engagement session and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. Fast forward two hours later and my phone was screaming at me (you know that really high-pitched blaring beep?) telling me to run for the hills: flash flood and severe thunderstorm warnings galore. Diana and I waived hello through slightly-rolled down windows, squinting hard to brace for rain droplets flying in and hitting us in the face. I’m happy to say that we got to have a normal, more composed greeting this time lol.
And guys, let me just say this: I was SO EXCITED for this desert engagement session, but I was also nervous! This is my very first photo session in Arizona and I knew the landscape was going to throw a few challenges at me. Concern #1 : Tennessee if full of tall, luscious trees. The desert? Yeah, it’s lacking just a tad in the tree department… Concerns #2 #3 : the desert is vicious AND I’m clumsy haha. I focus so hard on what I’m doing that I’m not always super careful about my surroundings. Within the first 10 minutes of our session I learned that there is grass here with little needles on it. What?! Touché, desert.
There was something that blew my mind when I first started chatting with Diana. These two met online on a site where the girl is REQUIRED to reach out first. I had no idea that was a thing! Needless to say, my chickened-out self would still be single… You go, girl! She definitely snagged a keeper though. Dalyn pulled out all the stops for a romantic, intimate wedding proposal. And the ring?! Total show-stopper. These two were just so much fun! I learned that we share a love of crime shows and were both working our way through the newest season of Mindhunter on Netflix. Side note: if you love shows that focus on finding criminals based on their behavior, Mindhunter is the story of how that all started!
Diana and Dalyn chose the Arizona Inn for their wedding venue and it suits them so well! It’s a classic, historic hotel FILLED with character. I’m so happy that I get to share the day with these two. Thank you both for being so patient with the crazy weather and scheduling. I loved spending the evening with you!
