I felt like I had waited an eternity to finally hang out with Katie and Ethan for their downtown engagement session in Tucson. Katie stopped by to see me at my booth at a bridal show in Tucson way back in January 2020. We had already chatted, emailed back and forth, and she had booked me as her wedding photographer. But she still took the time to stop by, say hi, and meet face-to-face. How sweet is that?! I was so pumped to go see some of her favorite murals downtown.
When I met Katie at that bridal show, she lovingly referred to herself as the “girl who sends a billion emails.” And you know, she was right. But I love it! These two have been through so much over the past year and a half. I am genuinely glad that I’ve been able to be by their side as they navigate this season of engagement and wedding planning during a pandemic.
Ethan and I immediately connected on our love for video games. I admitted that I’ve put in about 200 hours of game time in since the newest Xbox Series X release back in November. Where are all my fellow gamers at?! Luckily, Mike loves games just as much as me. So he understands my eagerness while pleading to get his own game time in, too haha.
Katie and Ethan were so eager to finally call themselves “husband and wife” after putting their initial plans on hold that they went ahead and had a small civil ceremony to make things official. But that didn’t stop them from wanting to remember this time together in front of their favorite murals downtown. I can’t wait to be a part of their big celebration with friends and the family that will happen later this year.
As a new Tucsonan, I had no idea how many murals downtown has to offer. Seriously. Tucson has almost 100 murals in the area! Katie told me that her two favorite murals are the “Whales” and “Greeting Card” so those two spots were the focus of their photo session. Now the people closest to me can tell you there is one thing that stresses me out to no end… and that’s driving downtown! The traffic. The random one-way streets. The construction. It gets to me so fast! Lo and behold, as soon as I got within 2 minutes of our meetup spot, road after road was closed. Luckily, Katie is super familiar with the downtown area and knew where I finally ended up. Then we were off to our first mural!
This one has to be my favorite. I told them they were going to have a “Pose Off” with each other. So, who do you think posed it best?!
After we had some mural time, I walked us over to a cute little street full of even more color! I told Katie and Ethan to find a house they loved.
As the sun started to set, we made our way to the last area on our list that was a little further south of the city. Katie told me this next mural was one of her favorites.
This photo doesn’t even BEGIN to show you how huge this mural is! The wall is several feet taller than what’s shown here AND probably 4-5 times longer!
To get in a tiny bit more variety, we stopped by a small park down the road. We got in a tiny bit of green with the palm trees and watched the sun set behind the mountains.
Katie and Ethan, I had a blast getting to spend time with you two during your downtown Tucson engagement session. I am beyond pumped for your wedding day at the iconic San Pedro Chapel. Glowy desert portraits, here we come!
