Megan and Colin knew right away where they wanted to have their engagement session in Tucson. They spend a lot of time outdoors together hiking and exploring new spots. They asked me if I’d be down for a short hike at one of their favorite spots. Bring it on! And guys… they totally brought it! I think I might want all of my sessions to take place mountainside!
When Megan and Colin first reached out to me, I had no idea that I had actually photographed a family member of theirs several months ago. Colin’s sister Erin had come to Tucson with her husband Myron and had a desert anniversary session with me to commemorate their relationship and their trip to Arizona. Fun, right?! Well, Colin was suuuuper sneaky and used their anniversary session as a crafty way to propose to Megan after COVID had messed up more than one attempt to surprise her.
First, Colin wanted to pop the question in San Diego. It would’ve been their first time to California. Cancelled. So then he decided they’d go to Vegas, still have a fun vacation, and he’d ask her there. Shutdown. After Erin and Myron had their anniversary session with me, Colin figured he’d take Megan out to that same spot so they could check it out. I mean, they spend tons of time outside so it doesn’t seem out of place. He got down on one knee, gave an amazingly heartfelt speech, and asked Megan to marry him in front of her friends and family… that she didn’t know were even there until he asked her to turn around! Surprise after surprise!
I had never been to the area that Megan and Colin wanted to go to. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. Megan and Colin brought along their 110 lbs. labradoodle Eli and their friend Gary to watch after him. As we started to make our way down the mountainside, we quickly realized that a lot of the “path” had become overgrown. Now, I use the term “path” loosely because it wasn’t a nice, smooth, clearly-marked path like you might expect to find. It was rocky, steep, and hard to see at times. We made the call early on to not hike down to the very bottom because we’d end up losing the beautiful light we needed for their photos. And, well,… I’m pretty dang happy with where we stopped!
Look at that engagement ring! It DEFINITELY makes a gorgeous statement!
As we waited for the light to soften a bit, I took some individual portraits of Megan and Colin. I love doing this during my engagement sessions.
Colin is preparing to enter the realm of real estate. Naturally, I made sure we got him a nice headshot to start his career off strong!
Megan’s soft, light-purple dress with that strong punch of lip color was absolutely stunning on her!
Eli had been waiting patiently to spend some quality time with his mom and dad. Megan had picked out a cute little sign for him to show how excited he is for their wedding day!
As the sun started to set, I got to get some of the glowy images that I just loooooove to photograph. What a view!
Next, we grabbed one more quick pic with a tired Eli before it was time to…
Pop the champagne! Megan was smart and brought along two bottles of champagne. The first one wasn’t super cooperative. Regardless of the hiccup, they still had so much fun with this shot. Afterwards, of course, they got to drink the champagne that was left. Double win!
Megan and Colin, I hope you loved getting to capture some gorgeous images for your desert engagement session. You will certainly be getting variety between your Indiana wedding venue and your Tucson reception!
Also, a special shout out to Gadabout Salons for making Megan look even more stunning!
